Grayshott’s Got Talent
Year 6 students at Grayshott Primary School have been challenged to show off their entrepreneurial skills this term by taking part in an innovative programme designed and delivered by BizSchool Ltd. Kindly sponsored by Homes Estate Agents and A&N Chartered Accountants, the pupils participated in a highly practical programme (delivered weekly) and received a comprehensive induction into the world of business and entrepreneurship. Including modules on global economics, marketing, finance and presentation skills, the aim of the course was to enable each team in the class to pitch an original business plan and compete for £250 of funding to set up their own enterprise. After successfully pitching all their ideas to the final “Bears’ Cave” judging panel, the winning initiative was announced. “Talent Today” was awarded the funding and all members of the class became involved in making it a reality.
After a professionally organised round of auditions, Talent Today complete with stage, sound system, raffle and refreshments took place on a beautiful summer evening on the school’s playing field. An impressive audience of parents and pupils sat in the sun to be entertained by an array of young talent from every year group including dancers, comedians, gymnasts, singers and a variety of musicians. Many brought picnics or indulged in the delicious barbecue and dozens of local businesses kindly donated prizes for the raffle. Such generous support from the whole community enabled Gold Class, the year 6 entrepreneurs, to make a stunning profit of £1082.68. The pupils are looking forward to spending some of the funds on their end of term class treat having already agreed to donate a substantial sum to Cancer Research UK.
Michael Clarke, Deputy Head and year 6 teacher at Grayshott Primary School said “The children have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in BizSchool and learned so much. I am very proud of their achievements and how enthusiastic they have been about every aspect of the programme. We are already looking forward to taking part again next year with the new year 6 class. It has also been amazing to experience the depth of support we receive from our wonderful parents and the local business community.”
Anu Sharma, Managing Director of A&N Chartered Accountants, added “BizSchool has achieved truly practical business insight to young minds. It cannot be emphasised too highly how this experience will shape careers to come.”
