The meeting of the Full Council that took place on Monday 19 May marks the start of the civic year; similar meeting across the country will be taking place this month when each council holds its Annual Meeting. It is a meeting at which the council elect a chair, vice-chair and other office holders.
This year saw Cllr Sean Weir step down from his time as Chair of Grayshott Parish Council, but he is remaining a councillor. The council elected Cllr Nigel Harrison as its new Chair and also elected Cllr Pam Miller as Vice Chair. Pam was also re-elected as Chair of the Council’s Staffing Committee, whilst Cllr Dennis Homer was re-elected as Chair of the Planning & Conservation Committee.
Following his election, Cllr Nigel Harrison said “I am very grateful to my fellow councillors for electing me to be chair of the Parish Council. I have only lived in Grayshott for just over five years, I nevertheless feel that I have been fully absorbed into this friendly, lively and welcoming community. During my tenure as Chair, I shall endeavour to work with my fellow councillors, the council’s officers and our many volunteers to uphold and preserve all that makes Grayshott so special, whilst at the same time looking at what improvements we can make around the village that enhance our way of life. Good governance and prudent approach to the Council’s finances will be at the forefront of my mind. Finally, I would like to pay tribute to Cllr Sean Weir for what has been achieved over the last two years of him being at the helm of Grayshott Parish Council; thank you Sean.”
After the Annual Meeting, Cllr Pam Miller stated “I have lived in Grayshott for almost 20 years and would not have wanted to raise my boys anywhere else. I’m fortunate enough now to have time to give back to the community that has given my family so much. I am honoured that my fellow councillors have re-elected me as chair of the Staffing Committee and elected me as vice-chair. I would like to echo Nigel’s tribute to Sean and am grateful that he will remain on the council.”
One of the first tasks facing councillors, is to update the GPC Action Plan and to ensure that we are focussing on the priorities and challenges that are most pressing. One of these priorities will be the £200,000 project to refurbish the current skate park as soon as possible. Grants have already been pledged from various sources, and the project tender has been issued to prospective bidders. The full Action Plan for 2025/26 will be published on the website in due course.
Note: profiles of all councillors, including their contact details, are available elsewhere on the GPC website (here).
