Don’t miss this week’s opportunity to visit The Hunter Centre’s “pop-up” shop on Crossways Road
This week is National Dementia Awareness Week and we are fortunate that The Hunter Centre has chosen Grayshott for its shop. The Hunter Centre based in Haslemere relieves the needs of all affected by Dementia and related conditions, in Haslemere and the surrounding areas. This is primarily done by operating a day centre providing care for those with Dementia and support for their families and carers.
The Hunter Centre and Grayshott Parish Council have been working together to raise awareness of Dementia in our community. Cllr Sogbesan reports “I was particularly lucky to visit the shop on their first day and it was nice to meet Elaine the manager of the Centre who has been instrumental in delivering dementia information sessions to local businesses. I was able to talk to a local family member who is caring for his parents and wanted information about local support. Fortunately there was an information booklet from the Hampshire Dementia Alliance on hand with a list of support organisations within Hampshire.“
The theme for this year’s campaign is diagnosis. A local doctor will be in the shop on Friday 20th May between 10am and 12pm offering a free memory screening test to anyone that has concerns. Results of the test can then be taken to their NHS registered GP for discussion.
Dementia is not a single illness but a combination of symptoms caused by damage to the brain. There’s no cure but it is possible with support to live well with dementia.
Have a wonderful awareness week and please visit the shop and donate to the Hunter Centre charity.
