Grayshott – a dementia friendly village
Grayshott Parish Council is committed to ensuring Grayshott is dementia friendly, where residents in our community that live with dementia are understood, respected and supported.
The Council has arranged a Dementia Awareness Training event for all Councillors on the evening of September 14th and there are a few places available. The training is being given by the Alzheimer’s Society and the session starts at 6.30pm. We would be interested in hearing from anyone in Grayshott that would be interested in attending the course and subsequently working with us as we take the necessary steps towards achieving dementia friendly status. Following the training we will be assessing what action can be taken to ensure we have a supportive physical environment; ensuring local facilities are dementia friendly; ensuring we do what we can to strengthen local awareness and network of support for residents with dementia. If you are a dementia sufferer yourself or a carer, or have already become a dementia friend or offer a service to dementia sufferers, you would be valuable on our team so please get in touch.
Our aim is:
- To ensure that people living with dementia, their carers, families have a voice and can maintain and, where necessary, increase their social contacts
- To develop or contribute to the development of suitable inclusive social activities and services locally for people living with dementia and their carers
- To work in collaboration with local groups and organisations.
