Sixteen local artists across twelve studios in the Hindhead Valley are preparing to welcome visitors for the annual Surrey Artists Open Studios (SAOS) giving the public a chance to meet the makers.
The Hindhead Golden Valley trail showcases the best talent the area has to offer, with a trail through Grayshott, Headley, Churt and Beacon Hill that will immerse you into a world of artistic variety.
The launch weekend takes place on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 June between 11am and 5pm, with all artist studios open for the duration offering an array of activities for visitors looking to explore the making process across the arts and crafts.
Whether you’re a casual admirer, an avid collector or an interiors guru, Surrey Artists Open Studios is a wonderful opportunity to meet artists and makers in their creative spaces and learn more about the inspirations behind their works and how they each approach creating their unique pieces. It also offers a chance to purchase items directly from the artists, get expert advice and even get involved in creative workshops at some locations.
The variety of art showcased across the studios includes traditional weaving, paintings, pencils and pastels, photography, ceramics, and sculptures. Whether you’re an admirer of gusty seascapes or luscious landscapes, inspired by wildlife, nature and botanicals, have a passion for pattern and texture, or prefer the immersive nature of abstract pieces the Hindhead Golden Valley Trail has got it all.
There’s something on offer for all budgets, whether you’re looking for that statement piece, accessories and decorative items for the home or gifts for loved ones, the range on offer is not to be missed. And, for those looking for something more specific the open studios offer an excellent opportunity to consult with local artists directly to discuss bespoke projects for that truly unique addition to your home.
Refreshments will also be available as the Hindhead Golden Valley Trail artists celebrate the opening weekend of the annual arts showcase. The event continues until the 26 June although studio opening times may vary.
Rebecca Harvey-Browne from Dobby & Rose, traditional weaver on The Golden Valley Trail commented “We’re all excited about opening our doors and welcoming visitors throughout the Surrey Artists Open Studios event. This opportunity to share our passions and showcase our work will hopefully inspire some of our visitors as they navigate their way through the trail and see what our beautiful corner of Surrey has to offer, both in terms of artistry and scenery alike.”
Rebecca will be running weaving workshops at the Dobby & Rose Studio throughout the event, with a beginners weaving workshop on Tuesday 14th and a Frame Loom weaving workshop on the 21st, bookings can be made on the Dobby & Rose website.
