Job opportunity – Council seeking to recruit a Clerk and Finance Officer
JOB OPPORTUNITY
POST: Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer
HOURS: 30 hours per week, working pattern to be agreed
SALARY: £37,440 – £46,450 per annum pro rata – depending on experience and qualifications.
The Parish Council has a confident and active team of Councillors and Officers, unafraid of tackling large projects and the ever-changing nature of the local council sector. There is a strong commitment to serve the community. The Council’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for the community of Grayshott, maintain the village identity and encourage a community spirit.
The Council is seeking to recruit a clerk to replace the current post holder when they retire this year. In addition to acting as the Council’s chief advisor and Responsible Financial Officer, the Clerk is responsible for overseeing the management of all Council functions and services. In particular the Clerk is responsible for producing all the information required for making effective decisions and for constructively implementing all decisions. The Clerk is supported by an assistant clerk and served by a modern well equipped office at the recreation ground. Working hours are reasonably flexible but there is a requirement to cover evening meetings.
The Council’s annual budget is circa £140k, it has the Local Council Foundation Award and the General Power of Competence.
Ideally, all applicants will be CILCA qualified or have a minimum of 2 years’ experience of working as the clerk and responsible financial officer for a local council. The Clerk will work with and support the Council in achieving its stated aims and objectives. A sound knowledge of current local government practises is desirable along with a proven track record of securing improvements in functions and/or services. However, there may be some flexibility with aspects of the role, for example splitting the clerk and finance roles, so we suggest all interested candidates, with a strong work ethic, excellent organisational skills, and a “can-do” attitude, get in touch.
This is a progressive role and ongoing training is available. The Parish Council is an equal opportunity employer.
