Parking update
The Parish Council is pleased to update you on EHDCs review of parking in the village. We have just received the following from Natalie Meagher:
Parking is at a premium in the centre of Grayshott village. Surveys undertaken during the last few years show that parking, both on street and off street, is at or nearing capacity on a regular basis.
Significant work has been undertaken in recent years to identify parking solutions for the village centre. This culminated in an exhibition held in April last year which set out proposals for both on street and off street parking solutions.
The success of the exhibition lies in the fact that more than 220 visitors attended and in excess of 100 questionnaires were completed. Subsequent responses have continued to be fed into the process further shaping the outcomes in terms of moving the proposals onto the delivery stage. All communications have provided valuable insight and intelligence into what the local community’s vision is for parking in the centre of Grayshott.
On Street
The evidence shows overwhelming support for introducing a limited wait scheme in Headley Road and Crossways Road.
The proposals suggested a limited wait period of up to one hour. Whilst there was significant support for this proposal, an alternative solution emerged during the consultation process which had a greater level of support. The alternative is to extend the proposed one hour limited wait period to two hours.
Action: To introduce on street limited wait for up to two hours in Headley Road and Crossways Road.
Other proposals to introduce on street restrictions to Glen Road and Avenue Road were received less favourably. Evidence shows that local residents will be adversely affected should restrictions be introduced at this time.
Action: Review the impact on Glen Road and Avenue Road following the introduction of restrictions in Headley Road and Crossways Road.
Off Street
The evidence shows there is recognition for capacity issues within the three council owned car parks. However, the proposals to introduce a parking permit system received mixed reviews.
Action: Review the impact on the car parks following the introduction of restrictions in Headley Road and Crossways Road.
The on street works in Headley Road and Crossways Road form part of East Hampshire’s Traffic Management team’s programme for this year. It is anticipated that this will be advertised by the end of June.
