A New Place to Play: Teen Recreation Area Update
Grayshott Parish Council is excited to provide an update on the Teen Recreation Area project at the village recreation ground. Formerly referred to as the skate park upgrade, this initiative aims to create a safe, inclusive and engaging space for 11 to 16-year-olds in our community.
This project has been guided by your feedback. Over the past year, many residents, and specifically our younger residents have shared their views through online and paper surveys, information sessions and consultation events. In addition, we’ve held focus groups and listened closely at council meetings. Your input has helped us shape a vision that reflects a wide range of interests—balancing sport, recreation, and social spaces within a practical budget.
We’re very pleased to report that we have now secured the funding necessary to move forward. We’re currently in the process of selecting a supplier and expect to confirm our choice by the end of summer 2025. Once a supplier is appointed and contracts are signed, we’ll be able to share a timeline for construction – taking into account both contractor availability and the seasonal use of nearby football and cricket facilities.
The plan is to divide the current skate park area into two parts: one for ball sports and the other for wheeled activities like skateboarding and scootering. Budget permitting, we also plan to add a new seating area and an activity zone. A full design will be shared with the community once finalised.
To create a more open and inviting environment, we plan to remove as much fencing as possible, install timed lighting (pending planning approval), and build a path connecting the area to the main car park. We’re also exploring the feasibility of adding CCTV to enhance safety.
We’re excited to see this project take shape and remain committed to working with the community every step of the way. If you have questions or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Parish Council.
