Village Speed Restrictions
The following response was received from The Grayshott Parish Council (GPC) to concerns, expressed by The Grayshott Society Committee on behalf of a number of Members, to the apparent lack of awareness of speed restrictions within the village and the perceived lack effectiveness of the current signage.
At a meeting of GPC on 20th November, it was unanimously agreed that:
• Although GPC had originally asked for minimal signage one set of “20” repeaters in Crossways Road would be acceptable, and would hopefully encourage drivers to stick to that limit.
• 20mph repeater size signs in Crossways Road opposite Boundary Road, facing the junction, would ensure school users in particular are aware of the limit as they enter the school grounds from the A333.
• Both 20mph signs at the Portsmouth Road South end of Crossways Road being turned a little would make them more visible to drivers as they turn into the road from either direction. If, as you face the junction from Portsmouth Rd South, the left-hand sign was turned a little to the right it would make it easier for drivers to read coming from the Hazel Grove junction and if the right- hand sign was turned to the left it would make it more visible for drivers coming from the Bramshott Chase direction.
• 20 be painted on the road at the ‘Fiveways’ junction end of Crossways Road to act as a reminder to drivers that they’re still in a 20 zone. This has already done at the Portsmouth Road South end of the road.
Although this has yet to be agreed, a number of Councillors suggested that:
…the Portsmouth Rd South junction of Crossways Road the “20” mph face should be illuminated to give better visibility at night.
Members were also interested to know if any enforcement of the new limits will be carried out, and if so when that might be. We still await a response to this query.
