Councillor grants go right to the heart of the community
Local groups can get financial support for community projects through a popular grant funding scheme that re-opened in April. The Councillor Community Grant Scheme is intended to help voluntary organisations, parish councils and community clubs run projects that will strengthen communities and bring people together.
Each EHDC councillor has an annual budget of £7,000 to award to voluntary and not for profit organisations operating within their ward. Applications can be submitted until Friday 26 February 2027.

Cllr Adeel Shah, EHDC’s Portfolio Holder for Community Development andEngagement, said the grants help connect communities, build capacity in thevoluntary sector and support thriving local neighbourhoods.
He said: “Last year, through the Councillor Grant scheme, we supported more than261 local projects with funding totalling almost £300,000. I am delighted to launch this grant again giving councillors the chance to support worthwhile projects within their local area.
“If you are involved with a school, charity, non-profit organisation or community group, this grant is for you. If you’re delivering a project that benefits people in your town, village or neighbourhood, your local councillor may be able to support you through this funding.
“The Councillor Community Grant Scheme is a valuable way for EHDC to provide essential financial support directly to grassroots organisations. No one understands the needs of a community better than the people who live there and the councillors who represent them.
“This scheme ensures that every councillor can help fund initiatives that make a difference locally.”
Community groups can apply for grants of up to £2,000 per councillor from any councillor that has a responsibility for the area covered by the project.
Applications are accepted throughout the year, but funding is limited.
Before applying for a Councillor Community Grant, you must contact your local district councillor to discuss your project and seek their support. All grants are awarded at the councillor’s discretion, and applications submitted without their endorsement may not be approved.
