Grayshott Parish Council is pleased to announce that a memorial in memory of the late Queen Elizabeth II will be unveiled in the Village Square on 8th September 2024; the second anniversary of the Queens passing.
The memorial has been generously donated by the Grayshott Pottery and designed by our local resident artist Phil Bates, who has been involved with previous outdoor projects in the village such as the 2000 Millennium Statue on the Village Green.
Grayshott Parish Council put forward the idea to commemorate the late Queen in 2022 and, following a consultation with village residents to confirm the majority wished to commemorate the late Queen and gather views on location, the Parish Council approved both the design and it’s positioning in the Village Square.
The design is contemporary, and the memorial will be made to last – using high-quality specifications and a variety of different finishes in stainless steel. It will stand about 1.5m high.
Glenn Myers and Toby Hutchins, Grayshott Pottery Directors have not only agreed to fund and donate the Memorial but have been enthusiastic and supportive over getting the project off the ground and are very much part of the Memorial project team lead by Phil Bates.
Local businesses are also very much involved; Spedo (UK) Ltd, based in Lindford, is making the Memorial and Martin Brazier Spedo’s manager is overseeing the construction. Spencer Marsh of Forbes Design, based in Bordon, has created the CAD drawings for the detailed laser cutting and the engraved lettering. Spencer is working closely with Martin Brazier and Phil Bates as the Memorial project moves forward.
Details of the unveiling on the 8th September to follow.
