Grayshott Parish Council is inviting contractors to submit tenders for two upcoming community improvement projects scheduled for delivery in 2026–27. Both opportunities offer straightforward, well‑defined scopes of work and the chance to contribute to valued village amenities.

1. Teen Recreation Area – Phase 2 Works

We are seeking a contractor to deliver the next stage of our Teen Recreation Area development, creating a new grass kick‑about space and a dedicated zone for sports equipment storage. Works include vegetation clearance, ground preparation, turfing, boundary planting, and installation of a socketed football goal. A preliminary ecological survey has been completed, and tenderers should allow for its recommendations.

Submission deadline: 12:00 noon, 8 August 2026 Key requirements: Full price, method statement, programme for October 2026, insurance, equipment list, policy compliance, and staffing competence.

2. Applegarth Meadow Path Resurfacing

We are inviting tenders to resurface approximately 116 metres of hoggin path at Applegarth Meadow, ensuring a neat, durable finish that matches the existing upgraded section. The works involve preparing the current surface and applying a limestone 6mm‑to‑dust top dressing to a depth of 75mm. Contractors may use part of the car park as a compound during the works.

The UK’s traditional copper landline network is being phased out and replaced with a new digital system. This national programme—often called the PSTN switch‑off—is happening area by area, and every household and business will be affected. Although providers should contact customers directly, letters can be delayed or missed, and some people have reported losing service without warning. As one guide notes, “letters can come late, get missed, or not arrive at all… Acting early gives you choice and avoids the rush.”

Why is the switch‑off happening?

The Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) is decades old and increasingly difficult to maintain. Telecoms companies are moving all voice calls to digital technology delivered over broadband. This means that, in future, your home phone will plug into your broadband router rather than the old wall socket.

What residents should do now

1. Check when your area is scheduled

The rollout is staggered across the UK. Don’t wait for a letter—contact your phone or broadband provider and ask when your line is due to move. Knowing your date gives you time to prepare.

2. Check whether your current phone will still work

Many older corded phones that plug directly into the wall will not work without an adapter. Providers can usually supply one, often free of charge. The guide explains that “most older corded phones… will not work on the new digital network without an adapter.”

3. Check any personal or medical alarms

If you or a family member uses a lifeline pendant, fall detector, or similar telecare device, contact the alarm provider before anything changes. Many of these devices rely on the old phone line and may need updating or replacing.

4. Check your home burglar alarm

Some alarm systems use the landline to contact monitoring centres. Your alarm company can confirm whether your system is compatible with the new digital network.

5. Understand what happens during a power cut

Digital landlines rely on your broadband router. If the power or internet goes down, your landline will not work. The guide highlights that “your new digital phone needs your broadband router switched on and working.” If you rely on your landline and do not have a mobile phone, your broadband provider must offer a solution—usually a battery backup unit for your router.

6. Keep key phone numbers written down

During the transition, it’s sensible to keep essential numbers somewhere easy to find—your GP, a trusted neighbour, and your provider’s customer service line.

7. Ask for help early

Providers must offer support for anyone who needs assistance with the switch. Charities such as Age UK can also help residents understand what the change means and what equipment they may need.
