The Rec Hub Opens Its Doors for Christmas

Just in time for the festive season, Grayshott’s brand‑new Rec Hub officially opened after the final works were completed days before Christmas. The timing couldn’t have been better. As soon as the barriers came down, the space sprang to life.

Throughout the Christmas break, the skate park and surrounding recreation area were buzzing with energy. Families stopped by on winter walks, younger children tried out scooters for the first time, and seasoned skaters wasted no time testing the new ramps. It was heartening to see people of all ages enjoying the space exactly as it was intended—free, active, and welcoming.
The Rec Hub represents a major investment in youth facilities and community wellbeing, and the early response shows just how valued it already is. Seeing so many residents making the most of it over the holidays has been a brilliant start to its life in the village.

As we head into the new year, we look forward to the Rec Hub continuing to grow as a vibrant, inclusive space for everyone.

Grayshott’s Teen Recreation Area Project Update: Week 7

Guess what…IT’S FINISHED!

This is the final update on the Skate Park project.

Wonderful news that the project works are now complete and the only item outstanding is the sign-off by Health and Safety.

This week saw all the remaining works completed – the path and activity zone surfaces have been laid, the ball game ‘netball’ hoop is installed, the skate rails and jumps have been installed and the markings all set out.

Frankly it’s been an amazing last week, and I would like to say a huge thank you to the team from Proludic, who have all been fantastic.

What’s Next

On Monday next week we will have the sign-off process, and this may raise a few ‘snagging items’ that will be quickly dealt with.

If you have not been down (which I guess is rather unlikely) to the Recreation Ground recently, please wander down and admire our wonderful new facility.

New Name

We are also rebranding the area as its no longer just a skate park facility – we have added a ball skills zone and an activity zone!

The new name is The REC HUB!! Great name, I know 😊.

As always, if you want to know more, there is an excellent display in the Parish Office setting out the project and the design as well as more information on our website – Although I do think the best impression is offered by visiting.

This is my last update.

Many thanks,

Sean Weir

Grayshott’s Teen Recreation Area Project Update: Week 6

Next week should be the final week of the project – fingers crossed!  So, we are still planning to announce its arrival before Christmas – watch out for our announcement posters in the village and at the Rec ground.

This week saw two very significant developments:

Firstly, and thankfully the rain largely held off, the tarmac area was completed.  This part of the project was very dependent on having some dry days.  It already looks very smart and next week we will see the skate and wheeled sports ramps installed.  The fencing will also go up and finally the ball skills area will be completed.

The more observant members of the village will have noticed that the perimeter security fencing has had to be moved out quite a way to allow the larger vehicles to have access.  This will all be gone by the end of next week.  It has meant that the site is taking up more space than we planned, but its only for a short time.

Secondly, the grass turf has been laid around the seating area and the magical ‘bund’.  This has given the area a much more ‘finished-off’ look and feel.  Next week the final stages of the path and the surfacing for the Activity Zone will be laid with a clever wet-pour surface made from recycled nike shoes, no less.

As always, if you want to know more, there is an excellent display in the Parish Office setting out the project and the design as well as more information on our website. Although the progress is exciting to see, we ask that—for your safety and that of the construction team—visitors view the works from a safe distance behind the fencing.

As usual, if you have any questions please contact me via e-mail on sean.weir@grayshott-pc.gov.uk.

Many thanks

Grayshott’s Teen Recreation Area Project Update: Week 5

The skate park project is nearing completion with only 2 weeks left to go. We should be able to announce its arrival before Christmas – what a lovely present for the village!

You will have seen great progress over the last week. The MUGA ball zone fencing, goals with basketball hoops are now installed and these look great.

The next stage is to get the new tarmac laid for the skate/wheeled sports area and install the ramps. This is expected next week – but it is rather weather dependent – so please all hope for bright sunny days please.

Once this is in, the path will go in and final touch ups completed.

As always, if you want to know more, there is an excellent display in the Parish Office setting out the project and the design as well as more information on our website.

As usual, if you have any questions please contact me via e-mail on sean.weir@grayshott-pc.gov.uk.

Many thanks

Grayshott’s Teen Recreation Area Project Update: Week 4

This is the fourth weekly update on the Skate Park project for our residents.

We are now over halfway through the project and if you have been down to the recreation ground recently you will have seen big changes this week.

The new Activity Zone play equipment has been installed and looks amazing.  It’s a ninja-style frame that offers lots of activity opportunities.  There is also a new ‘pole’ which is going to be the new ‘net-ball-style’ game – watch out for this being complete soon.

You will also see the new seating, picnic table (perhaps not for the winter months) and bins being installed.  The old fencing has all been removed and the new fencing will be going up next week.

Finally, I think the new ‘bund’ (curved mound) around the Activity Zone looks tremendous and once this is covered in grass it creates a great amphitheatre.

As always, if you want to know more, there is an excellent display in the Parish Office setting out the project and the design as well as more information on our website.

As usual, if you have any questions please contact me via e-mail on sean.weir@grayshott-pc.gov.uk.

Grayshott’s Teen Recreation Area Project Update: Week 3

This is the third weekly update on the Skate Park project for our residents.

The project continues to progress very well and remains firmly on track for completion by Christmas. Despite the challenges of the weather, the work-crew has achieved another set of important milestones this week.

The hardcore bases for the new pathway, the extended tarmac skate area, and the Activity Zone have all now been completed. This provides a solid foundation for the next stages of the project and gives a clear sense of how the different areas will connect together across the site.

Most excitingly, the Activity Zone equipment has now started to be installed. The designers selected this equipment with teenagers firmly in mind, ensuring it offers both fun and challenge. The centrepiece is a large ‘ninja trail’ which can also be used for calisthenics training. Alongside this are a series of bars designed for sitting, swinging, perching, or simply hanging out with friends. Together, these features create a versatile space that encourages both active play and social interaction.

Next week, attention will turn to shaping and settling the bund (mound of earth) behind the Activity Zone, which will provide a natural backdrop and enhance the overall look and feel of the area.

As always, I would like to remind residents that this project has been shaped by community input. We consulted widely with our 11–15 age group to understand what they most valued, and through a competitive design competition we selected Proludic’s excellent design. We are delighted to see it now coming to life.

If you would like to know more, please visit the display in the Parish Office or explore the information available on our website.

Project Update: Week 1

After over 2 years in the planning, Grayshott’s Teen Recreation Area project started this week and this is the first weekly update for our residents.

The project is being run by Proludic, which is a very reputable playground design and construction business.  The whole project is planned to take 6 – 8 weeks (weather depending) and should be all finished by Christmas.

Many of you who use the Recreation Ground will have seen the preparation works starting.  This week saw the site fencing installed to secure the area and safeguard users of the Recreation Ground.  They are also installing their site container near to the car park and have installed robust tracking to protect the ground from the heavy vehicles.

Next week you should start to see work on the excavation of the new pathway as well as the removal of the old skate park fencing.

On a more serious note, concerns have been raised by a member of the public about the environmental impact of the project, in particular to dormice nesting nearby.  We have taken this seriously and we engaged an expert ecologist from ACD Environmental to provide a full assessment of the risk.  The assessment found that the area being clear was of ‘poor’ suitability for dormice and as such it is unlikely that any dormice or their nest would be present in the area.  However, we will take on-board a recommendation to add native planting along the boundaries for the local population of dormice.

My final request for this week’s bulletin is to ask all our residents to treat the workmen with respect and if you do have questions, please be polite and cordial.  Serena is also available during office hours to answer questions and we also have an excellent display in the Parish Office setting out the project and the design as well as more information on our website.

I am the project manager for the Parish Council, so please contact me via e-mail on sean.weir@grayshott-pc.gov.uk if you have any questions.

This is an exciting project for our community and the new recreation area will be a marvellous addition to the village – especially for young teenagers!

Many thanks

New Teen Recreation Area Construction Begins on Monday 3 November

We’re excited to announce that construction of the new skate park at the recreation ground will begin on Monday, 3 November.

The first phase of the project involves installing a new access path to the skate park, designed to improve accessibility for wheelchairs, prams, bikes, scooters, and skateboards. This marks an important step in creating a vibrant, inclusive space for young people and families in our village.

The full design includes a multi-use games area, new skate park equipment and a ‘ninja’ trail.

For your safety, please keep away from the construction area while works are underway. Barriers and signage will be in place, and we kindly ask all residents—especially children and young people—to stay away from the site until the project is complete.

We’ll be sharing weekly progress updates via our website and newsletter, or pop into the Parish Office at the Sports Pavilion if you have any questions.

Thank you for your support as we work to enhance our village’s recreational spaces.
